Studies show that workouts on an empty stomach burn more fat than those when food was eaten prior to the workout.
A FEW THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND :
- Evening workouts might affect your ability to fall sleep. That's a valid concern. Make sure you are finished at least 2 hours before going to bed.
- If you don't do well training before breakfast and want to maximize fat burning and exercise after-burn : eat protein before your workout. One scoop of whey/soy/rice protein in 250 ML of water (= 1 cup) and drink it 30 to 45 minutes before exercising.
I hope it helps !
Enjoy your workout !

HOWEVER...
- "Every person is unique". Remember : performance and weight loss are different goals. It means athletes have to eat before a workout to be able to push harder, while there are a few considerations for a "normal" person who wants to lose weight or shape up. Don't try to compare with your friends. Some people have a lot of energy at 6 AM while for other guys, it makes more sense to exercise in the middle of the day or in the evening.
- The best time is when you can fit it in. Our lifestyle is full on, so don't feel guilty if you can only do your workout after 7 PM, or if you exercise in the morning before work at sunrise.
- Listen to your body. If you feel energetic as soon as you get up, well that's fantastic ! Have a glass of water, then go for it ! But if you feel stiff in the morning or if you starve as soon as you get up, in that case, have a breakfast ! Eat mindfully, enjoy your food and this beautiful moment. Do what allows you to generate the most intensity in your workouts.
